First Batch Of Students Under K-12 Program To Graduate Next Month
About 1.3 million students would graduate next month as the first batch of K-12 program after DepEd has added two years on basic education.
In 2016, the Department of Education (DepEd) has implemented the K to 12 Program, which adds two years on Basic Education.
The K-12 Program aims to provide specialized training for the students in their selected field of expertise including Information Technology, Accountancy, Business and Management, Technical Vocational Livelihood, Humanities and Social Sciences, etc.
On April, about 1.3 million Senior High School students would graduate as the first batch of K-12 Program.
However, some Senior High School graduating students would not yet look for a job after their graduation admitting that the standard in applying for a job position is too high.
The students explained that even College graduates were finding it difficult to find a decent job, so it would be harder for them to find a job.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Leonor Briones believes that most of the graduating students could land a job wherein they undergo on-the-training (OJT).
“When they undergo job immersion and the company expands its operation they tend to take those who already have undergone training under them. Kasi na-train na nila. They won’t have to go to the process again of training absolutely new people,” Briones said quoted by GMA.
DepEd also released a data showing that about 61 percent of students were taking academic track including Accountancy, Business Management, Humanities and Social Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and etc.
While only 39 percent of the students were taking Technical Vocational Livelihood track, Arts and Design track, and Sports track.
