Bureau of Fire Protection Says Number Of Fire Incidents In The National Capital Region Has Increased In 2018

FIRE INCIDENTS – The Bureau of Fire Protection – National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) division says that the number of fire incidents have increased this year.

BFP-NCR official Colonel Rizalde Castro said that the incidents were not mainly caused by firecrackers, but were caused by cigarettes and electricity.

Castro said that according to the data, the number of incidents this year is 4,698 compared to last year, which is 4,646. He further noted that electricity, in nature, is the top one cause of fire incidents, with cigarettes as the top two.

According to GMA News, Castro further said that President Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) No. 28 has been a great help as there are no reported incidents caused by firecrackers, still implying that the data showed electricity-related and cigarette-related incidents.

The EO No. 28 was signed by President Duterte in June 2017 to regulate the use of firecrackers and confining it to community fireworks display in order to minimize the risk of injuries and casualties.

Furthermore, Castro said that they are prepared for incidents, especially during holidays. He further added that BFP personnel are deployed in public areas such as malls, cinemas and terminals.

Based on the report, Castro said that they are extremely implementing the “Oplan Paalala, Iwas Paputok” operation, where the personnel will first conduct an inspection in the NCR, then inspect the vendors if they have approval from the BFP and the local government to sell firecrackers.

The BFP also advised the public to use horns or any device that makes noise instead of firecrackers in order to have a “fire-free” New Year celebration.
